On July 5, First West announced the hiring of Tim Spencer, as the church’s new Executive Pastor.
Tim Spencer, who is from Collierville, Tennessee, was announced to the church after a lengthy search process. Tim, an ordained minister, has served as executive pastor at Collierville First Baptist Church in Collierville, Tennessee, since September 2012. He leads a collaborative team with an emphasis on shared vision, strategic thinking and goal clarity. He also directs leader development and member assimilation efforts. Tim has served as part of the Collierville FBC team since June 2000, initially serving as associate pastor of worship as well as leading in key roles as a member of their senior staff team. Tim has also served as adjunct instructor of Organizational Leadership and Communication at Union University’s Department of Continuing Studies in Jackson, Tennessee, since December 2005.
“I have said from the beginning of this process there are three things I’m looking for in an executive pastor: He must complement me, be competent, and he must be a team player. Tim Spencer embodies all of these qualities and more,” says Lead Pastor Michael Wood.
As Executive Pastor, Spencer will oversee all the day-to-day operations of the church. He will also provide leadership to all of the church’s ministries and staff.
“I feel that God has led us to Tim and that he is the man for this position. Our committee members agree that he has the expertise needed to lead our day-to-day operations, and we all agree that he and his family will be great additions to our First West family,” says Wood.
Spencer will begin work at the church in early August. He says, “What a blessing to join the incredible work and ministry God is doing at First West! Suzy and I are excited about working with Lead Pastor Michael Wood and entire leadership team to share God’s love in Northeast Louisiana, New Orleans and the world. We are praying for great things. Things that only God can do. We have the faithful expectation that First West will be energized for Christ-centered worship, community and service.”
Tim and his wife, Suzy, have been married for 21 years and are the parents of three: William, Daniel, and Katie.
