The longer I live, the more I realize that I am clueless about all that God wants to do through my prayers. I was raised to be polite and understated. It was rude to ask for big things, but it WAS okay if they were offered.
Mrs. Long led our elementary school “Good News Club,” where we learned Bible stories on flannel graph boards. She provided us lunch with cookies for dessert, but we knew that we were only getting two sugar cookies on our plate. One day she presented the whole bag of cookies for us to share. I enthusiastically ate more than two because she said I could!
In prayer, Jesus expanded the disciples’ understanding of what was possible in prayer. He said, “I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.” (John 14:12-14) Go ahead and ask Him for more; He said you could!
