Helping a Family Start Over After Escaping Domestic Violence

August 8, 2008

God is moving—good things are happening through the compassionate ministry thrift store. Through this ministry we were able to help a single mother with four children. Referred to Compassionate Ministries through Well Springs, the mother was a victim of domestic abuse like most of our referrals.

She had to start over again and was in need of basic household necessities. We were able to give her and her children clothing, food, toiletries, cleaning supplies, and household items. I was able to spend a little time talking with her and I prayed with her. We were able to be a small part of Jesus’ hands extended to this family in a very desperate situation. This could not have been possible without the donations and volunteers of Compassionate Ministries of First West. This is a one part of the big picture of transforming our community for Christ. Thanks to all who give of their time, money, & treasures.

A New Job and a Renewed Realization That God Works in All Things

August 14, 2008

Praise God! If only we realized God is always working things out for our good when we are looking to Him. This week a lady came to us for help because Well Springs had referred her to us. She has been through so much and needed help with the essentials. She was grateful that we were able to help her with clothing, household supplies, food, toiletries and cleaning supplies due to our wonderful church and community who donate.

During our conversation, she mentioned she had been looking for a job. Because she had a college degree, the fast food chains said she was over qualified. She asked for prayer for a job. That same morning we happened to have received an e-mail about a job opportunity—this hardly ever happens. Ron told her of this job and that night she filled out the job's application online.

The next morning they called her and and asked if she could come that day for an interview! She called us to let us know she had an interview and asked us to pray. I told her we would be in agreement with her and God would work things out. When she called back the next morning it was to let us know that she got the job. She was ecstatic! She said she knows it was not just a coincidence that she was referred to us; she believes God sent her here.

She has been attending a church when someone could pick her up and wants to start attending First West if she can get transportation. Even through the horrible times she has been through, she has had a great attitude and is positive believing God is not only present in her life now, but that he was also with her during the bad times she experienced. God is working things out in her life for His good. I know God will use the trials she has been through to minister to others. God is there for us when we allow Him to be.

A Newspaper Blessing

August 2008

Our ministry was very blessed this month.. The NewsStar came and wrote a full page article on the Compassionate Ministry Thrift Store. This article was located on the front page of the Religious Section in Saturday’s NewsStar. As a result, there was a steady stream of customers the Saturday the article appeared in the paper. We have been busy all week and we have received lots of donations. One customer even insisted on buying lunch for two of our Saturday employees. God is so good. He blesses us when we don’t even ask. Praise God!
