Is a gift of cash or a check the only way I can contribute to First West?

As a matter of fact, there are several options for contributing:

  1. Cash (use envelopes for proper credit)

  2. Gift of stock—call the finance office at 322-1611 for more information

  3. Automatic withdrawal from your bank account (turn in the attached card to the Finance Office).

  4. Equipment or furniture needed for a specific area. We cannot legally record a dollar amount on your contribution statement, but we will give you an acknowledgement letter that you can use for tax purposes.

Is it still an act of worship if my tithe is directly withdrawn rather than given on Sunday at a worship service?

Tithing is an act of worship and an act of obedience. Worship is an act of the heart so it does not matter how you give to the Lord. You can bring an offering that is above your tithe, also, that God promises to bless.

Isn’t it too commercial to directly take money from my account rather than bringing it here every Sunday?

Many churches now offer this service and it is in keeping with the times. For example, consider the past 50 years: in the 40’s & 50’s we only used cash, in the 60’s we used cash and checks, in the 70’s & 80’s we added the use of credit cards, in the 90’s we added check cards, internet banking, and automatic withdrawal. Many of us have our insurance, car payments, and house payments deducted from our banking accounts.

What if my income is fluctuating rather than stable?

If you or your spouse received a steady income or if you can average your monthly income, you can base your contributions and withdrawal on that amount. You can have the amount withdrawn that you would like to make based on faith.

What if I feel like I’m losing control of my finances when I have my tithe withdrawn automatically?

You have complete control of the date you want your money withdrawn from your account. We offer a choice of two dates each month. You will receive an e-mail reminder that your money is being withdrawn on the date you choose so you can log it into your check register at that time.

What if they take it out too early?

The bank will not take the money out of your account until the date you choose on your form. There are two withdrawal dates to choose from so that you can have the withdrawal made a few days after you receive your pay check.

I’m undisciplined and am not sure I can keep up with this. Can I do this?

The automatic withdrawal of your tithe is a perfect way to improve your discipline. Just as you are disciplined in paying your house payment and utility bills, you can learn to be disciplined in your tithe as well.

Will I be able to stop the withdrawal if my check does not come on time or if I need to change the amount of my withdrawal?

If you have any difficulties or need to make changes, you can call the First West Finance Office at 322.1611 and make those arrangements. We will need five days notice to process your request.
