What is Tithing?

<< Return to Giving

A "tithe" means "a tenth part"

The difference between giving your tithe and giving an offering is that a tithe is 10 percent of your income and an offering is anything you give in addition to your tithe. We tithe not because we feel like it but because God commands it and Jesus commends it. God clearly spells out in the Bible that tithing gives Him a chance to prove He exists and He wants to bless you.

Tithing reminds us that not only is everything given to us by God but that we are grateful for the blessings that He has bestowed upon us. It demonstrates that God has first place in your life and that you really love Him. God says that refusing to tithe is stealing from Him! You should tithe the first part of what you earn, not the leftovers.

How to Tithe

Bring your tithe to the place where you worship. Many like to give their offering in their L.I.F.E. Group Class or during the offering time in the Worship Services. If you are a member of First West, we have tithe and offering envelopes that we can send you each month with your member information on them. If you do not already receive these envelopes in the mail, please contact the First West Finance Office. You can also tithe through automatic withdrawal from a bank account. Remember, that you should give with the right attitudes. Man sees the outward appearance, but God sees your heart. He desires for us to give willingly, joyfully, generously, and expectantly. He does not want a gift grudgingly given for the key to giving is to give yourself heart, mind and soul to the Lord.
