First West Medical
Support Team

The entirely volunteer Medical Support ministry provides medical support by assessing the person’s situational needs and conditions at the time and will then provide counsel, care, support and treatment as deemed necessary by means available on-site and covered by the Good Samaritan Laws of the State of Louisiana.

The Support Team was formed knowing that in these earthly temporary bodies / vessels of ours, anyone may require sudden medical care even at church services or events due to illness or injury. When at First West services or events and the Medical Support personnel are available and  beckoned, Team members will attempt to provide care for the person according to their skills and training. For medical assistance contact the nearest Staff, Security or Medical Support member. Team members will not hesitate to call for outside support such as ambulance services for assistance or possible transport to local hospitals if need.

Team members have a minimum basic First Aid training (FA) to professional levels such as nurses, technicians, EMT Paramedics, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.  There are other specialty levels on our Team as well. We are under the guidance of a Physician as Medical Director.

Ministry Purpose

In the event of a medical emergency or need, the responding Team members shall assess by best means available the patient’s condition(s) and the situation(s) at the moment to provide the counsel, support and treatment possible. If warranted by the experience of the responding Team member(s),
the best appropriate level of care shall be provided. Should it be deemed necessary, 911 shall be called for outside support for care and / or transport by EMS, firefighters, law enforcement personnel to best hospital for emergency care.

Team member(s) shall respect the privacy of the said “patient(s)”.  All responses shall be with support of First West Security Team and / or Staff. The provision of continued standby support, care and treatment by the Team shall exist until summoned outside medical support personnel arrive on site.
The Good Samaritan Laws of the State of Louisiana and the Hippocratic Oath shall apply to all situations responded to. The Medical Support Team of First West is the Ministry which we hope and pray no one will ever need, but we will be there when needed.
