Fair Ministry

Mission: Minister to the fair workers at our local fair.
Leader: Kathy Gwin

Fair workers are often not given much thought by the local community. They are here today and gone tomorrow along with the brightly-lit rides and game booths of the Ark-La-Miss fair. However, God makes it clear in His Word that these men and women are in his thoughts and precious to Him. In seeking to bring this message to the fair workers, we set up a "rest area" during the fair where workers can have physical needs met, such as a hair cut or some refreshments while also having the opportunity to pray and fellowship with believers.

How you can participate:
Can you cut hair? We need some barbers and hairdressers to provide hair cuts to fair ministry workers. If you can help during the fair, please let Kathy Gwin know asap at 397.3654.

Before the fair, we need help in gathering supplies and resources, contacting service providers, and praying.

During the fair we need volunteers to help meet the needs of the fair workers including praying with them, helping to cut hair, provide refreshments, etc.

DONATIONS NEEDED:

• disposable razors   • blankets
• shaving cream   • travel pillows
• combs   • new or lightly used jeans (sizes 28-34)
• deoderant   • tennis shoes

Angel Tree

Mission: Provide toys for local children whose parents are incarcerated.
Leader: Ed and Joy Regan

During Christmas, children of incarerated parents are continually being reminded that mama and/or daddy won't be there during this time of family gatherings and special events.

They often do not receive presents because the family is struggling financially. Most of these children feel that because their parents are being punished for having done something wrong, they too are having to pay the price.

Sometimes one present can do so much to restore hope in a child's heart—it lets them and their families know that we care about them, love them, and know that this is a difficult season for their family. The ministry goes beyond Christmas, by ministering to these families we connect to a part of the community that is often overlooked.

How you can participate:

Before December, help put up tree in the Grand Hallway for the emphasis. Beginning in December, a Christmas tree is displayed in the Grand Hallway with individual children's Christmas present wish. Simply take one of the wishes off of the tree and bring it, wrapped, to the Angel Tree Christmas party held at First West. If you are unable to attend, you can still participate by leaving the wrapped present at the main office with a note explaining it is an Angel Tree child (please make sure his or her name is on the package).
